Book-A-Like: Talon by Julie Kagawa

 Destiny can be devilish.

Choices can be perplexing.

Love can be impossible.

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragonslayers. To protect themselves and their offspring, the dragons hid in human form, blending in with human society – a kind of dragon witness protection – and called this organisation Talon.

Processed with MoldivAfter centuries of hiding in human form and growing their numbers, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, leaders of industry, poised to control the world. Humans (of course) are none the wiser, and the dragons would like to keep it that way.

Twins Ember and Dante Hill are special- the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Nearing the end of their training, they being sent to live in sunny California to practice ‘assimilation’, i.e. living amongst humans.  Eventually they will have to take their place within Talon- after all every dragon has to do their part- but right now all Ember wants to  is live a happy, care-free teen existence. Constantly breaking the rules to hang out with her friends, her brother Dante is forever begging her to behave. She even has a boyfriend – Garret. (well, she hopes he’s her boyfriend)

Then she meets Riley – a rogue dragon. And her world turns upside down.

The Order of St George has also modernised. No longer the sword-swinging knights of old, they are now a military machine, swift and efficient. Actively seeking out young dragons while they are still learning how to co-exist with humans, soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian thinks he may have a lead – but he cannot kill his prey unless he is certain. And the way he feels about Ember Hill is anything but certain.

Choices need to made, and only Ember can make them.
