Easter Bilby Fundraiser with Australian Geographic

To mark the launch of a one-year partnership with Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) to raise funds for Australia’s most endangered species, the Australian Geographic Society, together with Australian Geographic’s high street retail partner QBD Books, has launched a campaign that starts tomorrow and will run across all 87 QBD stores in which customers can purchase a temporary tattoo featuring the iconic greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis).

Each tattoo costs $2 and features a beautiful illustration by renowned conservation wildlife artist Nathan Ferlazzo. There are less than 10,000 bilbies left in the wild and these vital “ecosystem engineers” now occupy just 20 per cent of their range at the time of European colonisation.

All proceeds from tattoo sales will be directed towards bilby conservation programs run by the AWC, Australia’s largest private conservation organisation. Their efforts to conserve the species in feral free enclosures is seeing encouraging results with their bilby population doubling in size between 2022 and 2023.

According to Australian Geographic Society chair Chrissie Goldrick , “We need big solutions to the big challenges faced by our unique native species, and it makes sense to form partnerships that leverage our collective expertise and reach to create real impact. AWC and QBD Books are both wonderful Australian organisations committed to making a difference and, together with Australian Geographic, we look forward to raising both awareness and funds for some of our most at risk species this year.”

“QBD Books are long-term partners with the Australian Geographic Society and are honoured to help in the programs and work they achieve in helping Australian species at risk. In addition to our normal fundraising activity, we’re adding the opportunity for our customers to come into store and purchase a $2 temporary bilby tattoo, 100 per cent of which will go to help protect this incredible animal,” says Nicholas Croydon, CEO of QBD Books and a director of the Australian Geographic Society.

The Bilby tattoo campaign runs from 8 March to 31st March 2024.

Visit any QBD store to purchase your temporary bilby tattoo, and know you are helping to save our precious Australian wildlife.
