When will we feel winter’s chill?

The winds of winter are howling. They are icy cold and fraught with uncertainty.

When will the next Game of Thrones novel be released? It’s the question that plagues GRRM fans in their sleep- all of them mentally urging him to get on with it and tell us what is going to happen already!

Recent speculation about whether or not the next installment of the Game of Thrones saga was on the horizon was quickly shot down by George R R Martin’s publisher who confirmed there are no plans for the much-awaited novel Winds of Winter to appear in 2015.

However these claims now seem to have been cheekily refuted by Martin himself dropping hints on his blog that he will not be attending either Comic-Con or the World Fantasy Convention until the novel is completed stating “I have too much to do. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them.”adding “(Should I complete and deliver WINDS OF WINTER before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind).” (For the uninitiated, Son of Kong is how he refers in his blog to Winds of Winter)

With interest in the series at a fever pitch, and Season 5 of Game of Thrones about to start on HBO, it is no wonder he might be feeling the pressure. Already the show is starting to move past the material in the books, with characters who have not actually met in the novels coming face-to-face in the new season.

For die-hard fans however, it’s not all bad news. You can read an excerpt from Winds of Winter on GRRM’s website here.

The new season of Game of Thrones airs on Showcase in Australia April 13, 2015.
