and share some of their favourite childhood reads!
Little Red Riding Hood: I loved little Red Riding Hood when I was little, it was one of my favourite bed time stories. This classic tale is a story about a little girl who goes to deliver goodies to her Granny and a Big Bad Wolf who she encounters on the journey. I particularly liked the tale as it was not about a princess and it taught children valuable lessons such as to listen to your mother’s instructions.- Leisha (Store Manager)
There Was An Old Bloke Who Swallowed a Chook by P. Crumble: A hilarious Australian themed spin on the all-time favourite, “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly”. This book presents beautifully illustrated pages that complement the text perfectly, adding to the hysterical humour embodied throughout the entire book. There Was an Old Bloke Who Swallowed a Chook is guaranteed to make any Australian child laugh!- Jared
Pirates Love Underpants by Ben Cort & Claire Freedman: A swashbuckling adventure from port to starboard following the antics of a group of boisterous buccaneers striving for the ultimate booty: The fabled Pants of Gold! Along the way they encounter sharks, crocodiles and a rival pirate group (luckily no Krakens) which they must overcome if the treasure is to be taken back to their ship, The Black Bloomer. Full of clever puns, cheeky rhymes and the spirit of adventure, Pirates Love Underpants is an essential read for any young nipper wanting a giggle or tips on how to be a pirate when they grow up.- Madi
The Witches by Roald Dahl: This is a tale about ordinary looking little old ladies who are in actual fact the most evil, vile witches who ever walked this earth! The Witches are determined to exterminate all children and it’s up to one brave little boy and his Grandmother to save every boy and girl. The Witches is a Roald Dahl favourite, full of magic, drama and excitement that is sure to delight and maybe even scare (just a little) both children and adults alike. – Sam
The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr: First published in 1968 this all time favourite tells the story of Sophie and her Mummy having tea….only to be interrupted by a “not-so-scary tiger” who fancies joining them. After eating all the food in the house and drinking all of Daddy’s beer the grinning tiger (who probably now has a belly ache and a hangover) thanks them and waves goodbye. The next day Sophie and her Mummy go shopping to buy all new food and they even purchase a big tin of TIGER FOOD just in case he comes to tea again….but he never did! – Lewis
Where’s Wally? by Martin Hanford: A childhood classic of mine for many years. It was not only challenging, but it never got tired and it could certainly entertain me for hours on end. With copious amounts of different editions and many many pages , it is a search and find series for young and old that you may never finish. – Adrian
Geronimo Stilton Series by Geronimo Stilton: Geronimo Stilton is a reporter for The Rodent’s Gazette in Mouse City. His animated novels are a chronicled account of his adventures, despite him being the first to admit that adventure is NOT his thing. Filled with humour, mystery, excitement, eye-catching fonts and bright illustrations, Geronimo Stilton books are fantastic first novels for young readers. If you are looking for a fun, fast and adventure packed novel for children of all ages, this is the book for you! – Toni
