QBD Reviews: Harley Quinn Vol. 1: Hot In The City

Harley_Quinn_Hot_in_the_City_TPBAfter her latest break up with her on again/off again boyfriend, The Joker; Harley Quinn finds out that an old client of hers from the asylum has passed away and has left her a building on Coney Island. Looking for a new life away from crime (and her ex), she moves to Coney Island to start off fresh and run a new business, What could possibly go wrong?

This first volume is a great introduction to the strange and trouble filled world that follows Harley wherever she goes. Written by the talented husband and wife duo, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti are able to construct a new plot for a well loved villain while also presenting a new cast of unique characters such as a retired war veteran, a roller derby team and a stuffed beaver. There is also a wonderful appearance of another favourite villain who just happens to be Harley’s best friend.

Each issue gives insight into the life and mind of this fascinating character as she interacts with regular people. The reader begins to learn more about her values as well as the things that she is passionate about which may not have been known about her in previous story arcs that she appears in.

A hilarious and action packed comic book series about friendship, determination and starting over in the eyes of a quirky and slightly insane DC comic villain. Get to know the character before her appearance in the new Suicide Squad movie out this August.
