The Magicians has a great story but don’t be fooled as this is not your regular book about a hero, villain and some lovable characters.

This series follows Quentin Coldwater, a high school graduate who has a bad attitude and a childish obsession to a children’s book series by the name of Fillory and Further. Quentin arrives to his Princeton interview to find his interviewer dead and as well as an envelope addressed to him. Quentin soon realises that not only is magic real but he has been selected to learn it. With that, all thoughts of which path his life was going to take quickly vanish when he finds himself sitting an exam at New York’s secret magic college, Breakbills.

Lev Grossman has creatively set up a great magical tale within modern day America. Being set in college, Grossman was able to mix plenty of magic with the typical college behaviour that included sex, alcohol, parties and of course, trouble. The Magicians trilogy is definitely one of those series that gets better with each book, and with the newly announced TV series due to be released on Foxtel, it is the series that you need to read.

The trailer for the TV show has been released but at this stage there is yet to be a date for when it will start.
