Game of Thrones holds a Guinness World Record!

9781910561010The fifth season of the Game of Thrones series was one for the record books- literally. The HBO series has entered the 2016 edition of the Guinness World Records after hosting the “largest TV drama simulcast” seen so far.

The second episode of season five, “The House of Black and White”, was aired in a whopping 173 countries and territories around the world simultaneously on April 20th, in a bid to crack down on illegal downloads. This edged out CSI, which previously held the record, broadcasting in 171 countries on March 4th.

Receiving an official certificate on behalf of the show was Maisie Williams, who plays fan favourite Arya Stark. “I’m so pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records, I’m going to tell my step brother as he gets the book every year for Christmas. I can’t wait to see the look on his face!”.
