Spotlight on QBD Pacific Fair

Our Pacific Fair store has lit up under the Spotlight this week with some awesome reviews and reading suggestions- just for you!

9780007425679Demon Cycle 04: The Skull Throne by Peter V Brett: As with previous instalments of the amazing Demon Cycle, I feel like I have been waiting forever for this book to come out – there may or may not have been a happy dance involved when I got it (hint: there was).  The Skull Throne is the continuation of the tale of Arlen Bales and his fight against the demons which stalk the land at night, killing at will. The only thing that can stop them is the ancient art of warding – and by warding his own skin, Arlen has turned himself into a powerful weapon. Many believe he is the Deliverer, a prophecised saviour of mankind. Others believe the Deliverer to be Arlen’s one-time friend and now bitter rival, Jardir. But now after a brutal battle, both men have disappeared – without a Deliverer, can mankind survive the demon plague? Gosh, I hope so! – Sarah (Store Manager)

Malazan Book Of The Fallen 01: Gardens Of The Moon by Steven Erikson: The first book in the popular Malazan Book of the Fallen series – what’s in it? Feuding Lords, the Claw Assassins, meddling Gods, a floating cathedral, a (rumoured) squadron of dragons, magic portals (and things that come through them), Shadow Hounds, and of course the stars of the story – a disgraced company called the Bridgeburners. A great read. – Allison (2IC)

9780575081406The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss: Patrick Rothfuss, what can I say? He is a brilliant writer of all things fantasy and Name of the Wind, the first novel in the Kingkiller Chronicles, is no exception. You must prepare to lose all contact with the outside world for once you begin reading it, you’ll be hooked. This tale encompasses everything we scifi/fantasy readers go crazy for; magic, adventure, action, humour, and love. If you ever need to escape from reality and immerse yourself in another world, I most definitely recommend Name of the Wind. – Sammi

Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta: A truly insightful coming-of-age novel about a teenage girl struggling to find her identity. It follows the roller-coaster journey of Josephine Alibrandi, who is of Italian-Australian heritage and doesn’t know where she belongs. This is one of those stories that will have you crying one minute and laughing the next – truly memorable. – Annie

9780007442928Divergent 02: Insurgent by Veronica Roth: Embark on the next stage of Tris’s journey as she attempts to uncover the real reason as to why the faction system has fallen apart. This next instalment of the Divergent series is even more action-packed than the first, with many jaw-dropping twists and turns in the plot. – Gemma
