QBD Book Club – January Highlights

Each month, our wonderful “Channel 7 x QBD Book Club” hosts Victoria Carthew and Lee Carseldine discuss great books of all different genres – from enthralling crime fiction to inspiring non-fiction. This month, they reviewed “Headland” by John Byrnes, “Age of Vice” by Deepti Kapoor, and MORE! To order our Jan picks and compare your opinion to theirs, head in-store or to the QBD Books website now.

Here are the fantastic titles we featured this month:

“Headland” by John Byrnes

When a coastal town is evacuated after record floods, three young police officers are left behind… in danger. Constables Ellie Cameron and Larissa Brookes are young women struggling to show their worth as police officers under a misogynistic sergeant, and Detective Constable Craig Watson is a young man with a damaged past and an uncertain future. Their drowning town of Gloster holds a secret that someone is prepared to murder for. There is a killer in the flood water… and he needs them dead.

“The 10:10 Kickstart” by Sarah Di Lorenzo

Whether you’re just starting out on your weight-loss journey or are already a “10:10 Diet” convert, Sarah’s third book is full of deliciously nutritious recipes, healing smoothies, and detox menu plans to help you kickstart your way to better health. It expertly shows you how you can shed kilos, remove toxins from your body, sleep better, feel more energetic, have clearer skin, lower your risk of disease, and improve your mood and relationships.

“Age of Vice” by Deepti Kapoor

In this remarkable story, three lives have become dangerously intertwined: Ajay was born into poverty and is rising through the family ranks. Sunny is the playboy heir who dreams of outshining his father, whatever the cost. And Neda is the curious journalist caught between morality and desire. Against a sweeping plot fuelled by loss, pleasure, greed, yearning, violence, and revenge, will their connections become a path to escape, or a trigger of further destruction?

“The Amazing Grace Adams” by Fran Littlewood

When Grace is driving to pick up a cake for her daughter’s sixteenth birthday party… and she snaps. She doesn’t scream or cry – she simply abandons her car in traffic and walks away. But not from her life – towards it. Towards the daughter who has banned her from the party, towards the husband divorcing her, and towards the terrible thing that has blown their family apart. She’s about to show her daughter that no matter how far we fall, we can always get back up. Because Grace Adams was amazing. The world and her family might have forgotten. But she is about to remind them…

“Foul Lady Fortune” by Chloe Gong

Spies. A Fake Marriage. A Murder Mystery. Set in 1930s Shanghai, this magnificent story follows Rosalind and Orion. Four years ago, Rosalind Lang was brought back from the brink of death by a strange experiment. The outcome: she lives, but she is now paused from ageing, can heal from any wound, and basically – cannot die. Desperate for redemption for her traitorous past, she uses her abilities as an assassin for her country. Code name: Fortune. To reduce suspicion, she must pose as the wife of another Nationalist spy, Orion Hong… but he has an agenda of his own.
