5 of the Biggest Revelations From Prince Harry’s Memoir, ‘Spare’

In his long-awaited memoir, Spare, Prince Harry shares his journey in his own words for the first time. With its raw, unflinching honesty, this is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

Released in Spain five days ahead of its publication date, these are five of the biggest revelations included in the title, as reported in the media:

Harry Accused William of “Physically Attacking Him”

On Wednesday, “The Guardian” released excerpts from the memoir that detailed a physical fight between William and Harry at Nottingham Cottage in 2019. Harry says the fight started when William called Meghan “difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive” – under the pretense of trying to help. However, the situation only escalated.

“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast,” Harry writes, “So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

Harry’s Paternity

For many years, rumours have circulated that James Hewitt, a riding instructor rumoured to have had an affair with Princess Diana, is Harry’s true father. Supposedly, King Charles himself even made these jokes.

“Pa liked telling stories, and this was one of the best in his repertoire. He’d always end with a burst of philosophizing…Who knows if I’m really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I’m even your real father?” Harry wrote. “He’d laugh and laugh, though it was a remarkably unfunny joke, given the rumor circulating just then that my actual father was one of Mummy’s former lovers: Major James Hewitt. One cause of this rumor was Major Hewitt’s flaming ginger hair, but another cause was sadism.”

Meghan Told Kate She Had “Baby Brain”

Allegedly, the bitterness between Meghan and Catherine began during a discussion about Harry and Meghan’s wedding rehearsal and the flower girl dresses when Catherine became upset. According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail, “Meghan said that Kate must have ‘baby brain’ because of her hormones. It caused a huge row because Meghan was told that she wasn’t close enough to her sister-in-law to discuss her hormones and it wasn’t the way people spoke to each other within the royal family.”

Harry Feared Camilla Would Be a “Wicked Stepmother”

Apparently, both sons were against Charles marrying Camilla at first, worried that she would become their wicked stepmother. “Willy and I promised our father that we would welcome Camilla to the family. The only thing we asked for in return was that he didn’t marry her,” Harry writes. “‘You don’t need to get married again,’ we asked him.” “I remember wondering…if [Camilla] would be cruel to me; if she would be like all the evil stepmothers in the stories.”

When King Charles and Camilla married in 2005, Harry says that “[we] pumped his hand, wished him well. No hard feelings. We recognized that he was finally going to be with the woman he loved, the woman he’d always loved. Fate might’ve intended for him in the first place. Whatever bitterness or sorrow we felt over the closing of another loop in Mummy’s story, we understood that it was besides the point.”

King Charles Begged His Sons to “Stop Feuding”
The plea came during Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021. According to sources, Harry said Charles stood between his sons “looking up at our flushed faces” and asked, “Please, boys. Don’t make my final years a misery.”
