The Cane – Maryrose Cuskelly

Maryrose Cuskelly is an incredibly talented Australian writer. Writing both non-fiction and fiction, her work has been published by multiple publications and been up for numerous awards. For example, her essays and articles have been published in magazines, journals, and newspapers, including Crikey, The AgeThe Australian and The Melbourne Magazine. On her website, Maryrose saysI’m interested in stories that take on the complexity of human character and behaviour in ways that are compassionate, wise and ultimately hopeful. That’s why I read, that’s why I write.”

Her most recent fiction title “The Cane” has been selected as our Fiction Book of the Month.

This enthralling new story follows Barbara as she walks the cane fields searching for Janet, her sixteen-year-old daughter, who has been missing for weeks. Police have no leads, and the community are divided by dread. As the smoke rises, the dark heart of Quala will be revealed, affecting the lives of all those who dwell beyond the cane.
