Reviewsday: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

outlanderIf you like history, time travel, romance, the Scottish Highlands, witch trials and world war two stories; then you need to read Outlander.
If you like good writing, excellent research, political intrigue, historical accuracy and Celtic mythology; you need to read Outlander.

I had dreaded picking up such a monstrous volume. I thought that I’d struggle to get through it. Gabaldon’s writing is highly descriptive and keeps the pace moving. On one page you’ll be wondering how Claire and Frank will survive re-starting their marriage after the conclusion of World War Two, on the next you’re wondering how on Earth Claire will blend in in a society 200 years in the past.

The romance of this series plays a large part in the story but it doesn’t overwhelm the plot. If romance i13sn’t your thing, fear not, Outlander will deliver for almost every kind of reader with every kind of interest. A bit of Scottish Highland sexiness in Jamie Fraser doesn’t hurt either though!

I absolutely breezed through book one, formerly known as Crosstitch, and even though I was late to the bandwagon, I am left wanting to get back to the books as soon as I’m forced to put it down. I am ready for all the epic that Outlander has to offer and will absolutely be diving right into the tv series as it airs on SoHo (Channel 114) on Foxtel from 8:30pm April 10.

This sassenach eagerly awaits her next adventure!
