I really enjoyed The Younger Man, it was lighthearted, funny and romantic. There was drama, friendship, backstabbing, angst and laughter.  Part way through reading I thought the storyline was familiar, then realised I had read the book three years ago – and enjoyed it just as much the second time around!

I thought it was quite amusing how Abby and Marcus met. A fun, one night stand according to Abby, yet Marcus was more serious about her and wanted to build a relationship. Abby is ten years older than Marcus and it takes her a while to work past the idea that it is acceptable to date someone so much younger. Our society’s “rule” is that it is okay for an older man to date a younger woman but less acceptable the other way around. Abby has to fight past social norms (most of them in her mind) to have a relationship with Marcus.

Abby tries to pre-empt being heartbroken by always pulling away first. Only this time she has more feelings involved and constantly thinks of Marcus even when with someone else. There is so much drama but her best friends are there for her, even though they have their own issues. I really loved how their friendship was portrayed; they are all strong women, but better together.

I liked the way that Abby fought through the age gap issue, finally coming to realise that no-one can know what someone else will feel in ten years time. We should just enjoy the ride taking things one day at a time. I do enjoy a good romance novel and this is a perfect book to have read in between the psychological thrillers I have been reading lately. They have been really enjoyable but sometimes an escape where you don’t have to think is a perfect time filler.
