It’s the month of Valentine’s and Galentine’s! Our favourite time of the year as our local library has their annual ‘Book Blind Date’ where they wrap super cute romance novels in brown paper, and you get to choose one without knowing the title or anything about the book. What’s more, each book comes with a red heart chocolate. Romance reads and chocolate – what more could anyone want!!
Let’s dive in!
Super Epic Dragon Quest: The Deadly Fang (Junior Novel)
Adam Wallace and James Hart
Created with our youngest tweens in mind, this junior graphic novel is a fun, light-hearted adventure of courage, quests and dragons.
The once-glorious realm of Ticklebrook has become a grim and desolate place. Everyone is totally grumpy, and there’s nothing to eat but stinky rotten cabbages. Arlo is a farm boy with truly horrible parents who dreams of doing more than brushing the unibrows of his unicows. Julia is a plucky adventurer eager to escape her onesie-wearing father. With nothing in common but embarrassing dads, Arlo and Julia find themselves on a quest to save their land.
Easy-to-read with plenty of funny jokes and with loveable characters, it is ideal for all kids age 8+.
Cruel is the Light (YA)
Sophie Clark
It’s giving ‘enemies to lovers’ people! A new YA romantacy to obsess over and we are so here for it.
A brutal war between demons and humanity has raged across Europe for over a century. At its heart are two elite soldiers- Selene Alleva, a powerful exorcists trained at the prestigious Vatican Academy, and foot soldier, Jules Lacroix, unrivalled in battle.
When their paths cross, despite initial distrust – then unwelcome attraction – Jules and Selene discover a terrible secret at the heart of the holy Vatican City.
It’s got exorcists, it’s got demons and of course…forbidden love.
Perfect for fans of Powerless, Fourth Wing and Divine Rivals.
Bravepaw and the Clawstone of Rotwood Mire (Junior Novel)
L.M. Wilkinson
The second book in the Bravepaw series sees our mighty adventurer, Titch once again take on a terrifying enemy in her quest to save her home of Alluria.
Titch and Huckleberry are on an epic quest. They have followed their hearts … right into the path of a terrifying swamp monster, and a village full of brainwashed squirrels!
But Bravepaw or not, Titch is not about to give up. Can she defeat the greedy turtle controlling the squirrels, and discover what his glowing green gem has to do with the legend of Bravepaw and her quest to save Alluria?
With undertones of Lord of the Rings, but with super cute mice and squirrels instead of hobbits and wizards, this is a great novel series for junior readers.
