Spotlight on QBD Westlakes

The spotlight is on what our wonderful Westlakes team are reading this week-

and they have some great suggestions for you!

9781444722659Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor: This trilogy is nothing short of amazing! Full of twists, turns and characters you will fall in love with, Laini Taylor’s lovely, lyrical writing is mesmerising to read and will have you laughing, crying and not wanting it to end. -Chantelle (Store Manager)

The Missing and The Dead by Stuart Mcbride: Even though this is book 9 in the Logan McRae series, this book can be read on it’s own. I suggest starting from the beginning though,  as I believe it is one of the best crime series that I have ever read. The characters are believable, there’s action, AND it’s a real page turner. You really feel for Logan, even though he knows he’s doing the right thing, it always turns against him. -Bill (Store 2IC)

Burial Rites CVR RP SI.inddBurial Rites by Hannah Kent: Inspired by a true story detailing the final days of a woman accused of murder in Iceland. Despite having a gloomy mood about it, this book is filled with emotion and hard to put down. Hannah Kent sets the scenery with such accuracy and describes characters in a way that was truly authentic. Despite not being a big fan of such a haunting type of book, I found it quite beautiful and would reccomend it to those looking for a captivating read. -Jackie

Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead: This spin-off series from Vampire Academy provides a whole new depth to this transfixing paranormal world. It follows the journey of Sydney Sage, an alchemist, as all of the views she’s been drilled to believe for her entire life are challenged in more ways than one. Richelle’s amazing writing, and the lovable characters, kept me obsessed with the series until the very end. -Payton

9781743534151Yes Please by Amy Poehler: Amy Poehler’s biography is a must read for any fans of Parks and Recreation or Saturday Night Live. Yes Please provides a hilarious and heart-warming mix of personal stories and funny bits on work, love, friendship, and family. In addition to gaining insight into Amy’s life, she offers life-affirming advice such as ‘be whoever you are’ and ‘nobody looks stupid having fun’. I thoroughly enjoyed Amy’s book, and I challenge you to read it without a huge smile on your face. -Michael

Trylle Trilogy by Amanda Hocking: This teenage read puts a fun spin on mystical lands and classical fairytale stories. It is about a young girl living two lives between humans and her biological royal family of trolls…It was a great, easy read, perfect for ages 12-14. – Rachel

9781447268987Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel: Moving between a time before and after a flu wipes out 99 percent of the Earth’s population, Station Eleven is one of the most talked about books of 2014. Believe the hype, it’s that good. I couldn’t put it down and it had me thinking about it for days after I finished reading. -Jessalyn
